Fitjadalen. a couple of minutes North of Øystese doesn´t only offer excellent parking space, but also hosts great camping opportunities. When it comes to parking, it is in the very end of Fitjavatnet. Caming can be done more or less beside the dirt road you have to drive on.
The path starts right after a small bridge further down the road from main parking area. The first part is in a forest, and can be quite slippy since the roots are exposed. When cleared from trees, the path is rather small with large foliage to the sides.
The only major thing to remember is to steer left when you encounter the first cabin. After that you find out why this is rated Hard. Until you reach the mountain ridge, and make your way to Breidablikk, you have to make a brutal ascent. It is long and slow.
There is the option to hike through Mt. Skrott when you reach a second cabin. The trail will link up at Breidablikk.
After ascending for a while the elevation starts to flatten down, and you can finally start enjoying the hike. On the ridge the terrain morph into some amazing sights. The lake on the ridge serves excellent ice cold water in the summer.
